Four tournaments make up the Grand Slam of professional tennis. The first is the Australian Open, which takes place at the end of January in Melbourne, Australia, at Melbourne Park. It has been in existence since 1905.

The French Open, also known as the Roland-Garros, follows in Paris, France. Played from May to June, it was established in 1891 as a tournament for members of French clubs only. Others were allowed beginning in 1925.

Following that is Wimbledon, which includes 128 players. The tournament, running from June to July, began in England in 1877 and features a top prize of more than 2 million euros.

The US Open is the last of the tournaments, taking place from late August to mid-September. It was inaugurated in 1881 at Newport, Rhode Island, with only club members allowed to participate. Today, the tournament takes place at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens.
